2.7. Error "Sorry, the recognition results were not properly saved. Please try again." (Error 113)

Issue:

You receive an error when attempting to open image based documents (e.g. PDFs, TIFFs). The error states "Sorry, the recognition results were not properly saved. Please try again later.". Your Kurzweil 1000 Error Log will show the line "SaveMassagedRTF threw error 113. Description was Unable to save text."

Solution:

This is related to a Windows 10/11 beta feature "Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support". Please use the steps below to disable the beta function:

1. Press your Windows key, type 'Settings', then press Enter to get to your Windows Settings menu
2. Navigate to 'Time & Language' > 'Language & Region' > 'Administrative Language Settings'
3. Choose 'Change System Locale'
4. Uncheck the box for 'Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support'
5. Choose OK
6. Restart the machine when prompted
