3.5. Guide: Loading K3000 Network Licenses on a Virtual Server

Applies to Versions: Kurzweil 3000 (Win) Network

Important Notes

Issue Summary

An administrator is trying to install the licenses from the Kurzweil USB license key to a Kurzweil Network Engine.  This machine being used is a virtual server and as such may have no direct access to a physical USB port.

Troubleshooting Steps

Before you implement the below steps, please read below:

The Kurzweil 3000 Network Engine (i.e. licensing server) is not officially supported to run on a virtual server.

There have been reports of customer's license files being corrupted when their Kurzweil 3000 Network Engine (Kurzweil licensing server) is hosted on a virtual server machine.  However, we have not been able to internally reproduce this issue.

In an attempt to avoid license file corruption:

Steps:

1. Close out of the Kurzweil 3000 Network Administrator app if it is running on the virtual server.

2. Install the Kurzweil 3000 Remote Administrator app (from the installation DVD or download) onto a physical standalone "real" computer with its own USB port.

3. After installation, go through in-software registration chute to activate the new Remote Administrator app if prompted.

4. Place the USB Licence Key into the "real" computer's USB port.

5. In the new install of the K3000 Remote Administrator (which is essentially a second Kurzweil 3000 Network Administrator app), click Tools > Options.  In the Options window, enter the IP address of the virtual server.  This will point the active Kurzweil 3000 Network Administrator app to the Kurzweil 3000 Network Engine (i.e. licensing server) hosted on the virtual machine, and let you administrate it. Please note only one instance of the Network Administrator app can be running at the same time, this is why we closed it on the server in step 1.

6. Restart the Kurzweil 3000 Network Administrator.  In the Licenses menu, click on License Management... and follow the prompts to install licenses from the Licence key.

7. After it is installed, close the Remote Network Administrator and then open the one on your virtual server to verify the license count under Licenses > License Managment. The installed value is what you would want to confirm.
