3.1. General Information: Can the Kurzweil 3000 Network Server be hosted on a client machine?
Applies to Versions: Kurzweil 3000 (Win) Network
If the administrator does not have access to an actual server to install K3000 NT on, is there a way to install the Kurzweil 3000 Network Engine/Administrator on a client machine and have clients connect?
The K3000 Network Administrator and Engine can be installed on a non-server client computer. However, we recommend utilizing on a server if possible. The Network Engine/Administrator will run on a regular workstation, as long as that workstation is turned on and has a static IP address.
To clarify:
The Kurzweil 3000 Network Engine can be installed on a simple workstation computer to act as a server.
The below criteria must be met:
- The client machine acting as a server needs a static IP address
- The client machine acting as a server needs to be always on in order for clients to connect and properly keep track of licenses to go
- A local firewall may need to be unblocked for TCP port 1006 -- although most installations won't need to worry about this.
- If you have a virus scanner or protection suite on your clients, they may need to be configured to allow the Kurzweil 3000.exe to be excluded from active protections/scans in order to properly access your machine acting as a server.
- If you also want to install the Kurzweil 3000 NT client on the machine that is the server, you can do so - just point to the local loopback IP 127.0.0.1 when it asks for an IP address.
