1.9. Error: Kurzweil 3000 has quit unexpectedly (Mac)

Last Updated: July 2017

Applies to: Kurzweil 3000 Macintosh

Issue:

Kurzweil 3000 (K3000) for Mac is receiving an error message on launch, and it will not open properly. Please see below for known issues that may cause this problem.

Solutions:

1. You may receive this error if your software is out of date

You can download the latest version of K3000 for Mac from here: www.kurzweiledu.com/k3mac

Previous versions of K3000 for Mac can be downloaded from here: https://www.kurzweiledu.com/k3000-previous-downloads.html

Make sure to download the version of K3000 that you own or are supposed to have access to. So if you own version 5 Standalone, do not download version 15 Standalone.

2. You may receive this error if you're running an older version of K3000 on a newer Mac OS

K3000 version 15 is supported on up to Mac OS 10.12

K3000 version 14 is supported on up to Mac OS 10.10

K3000 version 5 is supported on up to Mac OS 10.8

If you're running an older version of K3000, such as version 5, on Mac OS 10.12, you may run into problems.

3. You may have to disable Mac OS Gatekeeper

There's a security feature called Gatekeeper on Mac OS that prevents apps that are not downloaded from the Mac Store from running. To disable this feature, go to the Apple Symbol menu > Sytem Preferences > Security & Privacy > General > and look under the section Allow apps downloaded from: > Make sure the raido button Anywhere is selected.

More information regarding this issue can be found here: http://support.cambiumtech.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=1739

4. You may receive this error if you have IVox version 3 voices installed on your Mac OS

This issue may only apply to old versions of K3000. If you have IVox version 3 voices, Kurzweil may receive an error on launch. The current workaround is to go back to IVox version 2 or lower voices, please see below for more details.

How to resolve the IVox issue:

1. Perform a spotlight search for IVox, this should locate the IVox Voice Manager, open it.

2. Go to Tools > Uninstall Infovox IVox

3. Reboot, after rebooting the IVox voices should be fully removed, they should no longer show in Kurzweil as choices.

4. If you would still like to use the IVox voices, you could install the v2 IVox voices at this point, as version 2 of the IVox voices are not known to cause a conflict at this time.

If you need more information about your IVox installation, refer to the official IVox manual here.
