1.35. Error: 1721 during uninstallation
Issue:
When attempting to uninstall Kurzweil 3000, an error 1721 is displayed as shown below.
Troubleshooting Steps:
This error typically relates to a corrupt installation file, which means a manual uninstall of Kurzweil 3000 will be necessary. This can be a fairly technical process. If you require assistance going through this process, please call our Kurzweil 3000 Technical Support Team. We can perform a remote desktop troubleshooting session where we can take control of the machine and go through these troubleshooting steps.
Before continuing, please note that improperly removing directories or registry keys can cause a machine to become inoperable.
1. Restart your computer
2. Login to the machine as an administrator account
3. Manually remove the following directories:
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Kurzweil Educational Systems
- C:\ProgramData\KESI
- C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\KESI
- C:\Users\<winlogin>\AppData\Roaming\KESI
- C:\Users\<winlogin>\AppData\Local\KESI
4. Manually remove the following registry keys:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\KESI
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall (perform a search for 'kurzweil' and delete any associated key in this location)
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products (perform a search for 'kurzweil' and delete any associated key in this location)
Alternate Solution:
- Download the install files for your edition of Kurzweil 3000 here: https://www.kurzweiledu.com/k3win
- Run the download package, this will start an install process. The install process will recognize that Kurzweil is installed.
- Select “Remove” from the modify/repair/remove dialog box that you should receive through this process.
- Removing it in this manner should remove Kurzweil without error. Please reboot if prompted.
- If you wish to re-install the product, run the downloaded installer again from your downloads folder to re-install.
