1.22. Guide: Resolving issues downloading Kurzweil using Internet Explorer or Edge
Last Updated: June 2023
Applies to: Kurzweil 1000 and 3000 downloads
Issue:
If you're using Internet Explorer or Edge, you may be prevented from downloading updates and/or the full installer of the Kurzweil 1000 or 3000 software. This is not a problem with our software or website, but a security measure within Internet Explorer and Edge.
When you experience this issue you will see a prompt stating: "To help protect your security, Windows Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer. Click here for more options..." or it may state "Virus Detected" if you are using Microsoft Edge.
If you are instead looking for tips regarding downloading Kurzweil in general, see here: General tips for downloading Kurzweil 3000
If you are in Edge and get "Virus Detected":
You will need to disable your SmartScreen Filter temporarily.
To do this:
1. In Edge copy and paste this to your address bar: edge://settings/privacy
2. Scroll down to "Microsoft Defender SmartScreen" and toggle it to disabled.
3. Try downloading again.
Alternative Solutions:
1. When you click the link to download the file, choose the Save option when asked if you want to Save or Open. Once the file is done downloading, you can try running it by clicking the Run or Open button.
2. If that does not work, and you are a system admin please refer to this Microsoft article for more help: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd565669%28v=vs.85%29.aspx#workaround
3. After following the instructions in the Microsoft article above, attempt to download and rerun the file. Again choose the Save option when asked if you want to Save or Open. Once the file is done downloading, you can try running it by clicking the Run or Open button.
