1.47. Error: Cannot load or initialize TTS voice message after opening K3000
Last Updated: Jan 2018.
Applies to: All Kurzweil 3000 Windows versions
Problem:
After Kurzweil 3000 (K3000) opens, you encounter a dialogue error saying, “Cannot load or initialize TTS voice” or a similar message.
This could be occurring because the audio output device assigned to text-to-speech (TTS) on your computer in your Windows Sound > Speech settings is either unavailable or disabled.
For example, if you have internal speakers and they’re disabled and headphones are not plugged in, you may encounter this issue. Or you could be using Windows Remote Desktop to remote into the computer and sound isn’t initialized through the remote instance.
Solution:
Exit out of K3000.
Make sure that speakers are enabled or headphones are plugged in and enabled as an audio output device. Make sure that the audio output device under Sound > Speech settings in Windows is that preferred audio device.
After you enable speakers or plug in headphones, open K3000 again. You should no longer receive this error message.
