Read the Web and Google Docs
Features available:
- After a Google document is loaded, it is now possible to click ‘play’ and have the document read from the first line.
- Moving forward and backward in the document using the toolbar.
- Clicking anywhere in the document and start reading from the clicked position.
- Reading will continue across pages and the document is scrolled as it is being read.
Known Limitations (Chrome/Edge)
- During reading, each line will be highlighted, but not the individual words.
- Reading must start at the beginning of each line.
- The highlighting feature is disabled for Google Docs.
Known Limitations (Firefox)
- Google docs still cannot be read on Firefox using Read the Web.
Future Enhancements:
- Development is underway to restore word-by-word highlighting in Chrome/Edge, which will restore the core limitations listed above for those browsers.
- Once Firefox has easily accessible annotation information similar to Chrome/Edge, we will explore options to restore functionality.
